Thoughts are already rushing at the speed of light… the sun hasn’t even risen to greet the morning sky… feeling overwhelmed from knowing what lies ahead for the day… lifting your head off the pillow—well it’s just too heavy… jumping from one thought to the next, rushing… rushing… rushing… each thought doesn’t even stay long enough for you to form an idea or work on any particular solution.
Sound familiar? You wonder am I completely insane? I feel like an elephant is standing on my chest. And now I don’t even want to get up—I can’t get up because this damn elephant is so big, so heavy, the pressure is too much to bear. The longer you remain wallowing, you may think you must be the only one in the world that could feel this much pressure right now. This very moment, no one else could possibly feel this much angst. You’re right! No one else can feel what you uniquely feel—this is yours.
However, we all have moments like this and even walk through an entire day in distress and despair—detrimental to our body, mind and spirit. There are a thousand reasons that send us into such a state. Let’s leave that one for another conversation.
To soothe your soul and move you into your day… the best you can do is to go WEIGHTLESS!
To lift the pressure sitting on your chest, lift the weight you’re carrying on your shoulders, to release the pressure in your head. Going weightless will lighten your load; create an opening of rising energy to flow through you and around you.
You ask—how do I do this? Where do I begin? You must…
Wake up! Discover this weight of life you hold…
Your journey to weightlessness means to release and let go of the heaviness so you feel lighter.
First thought—as in “first light” let me be aware that I waken in You.
Gunilla Norris
Cry if you must…
If it’s bottled up joy, gratitude or sadness, you just may need to burst out crying… allowing yourself the luxury of a good cry to clear away what may have been suppressed for some time. This is a great way to release pressure that has been hidden, bottled up and blocked out. Ever notice how you feel after crying tears of sadness, how your spirit is lifted? What you let go of will set you free!
“Tears cleanse my soul. When I cry, I release enzymes from my body. It is a chemical release, natures way of letting pain leave me—I cleanse my soul.”
Tian Dayton PhD
Breathe… just take a breath and let go.
Take in two full inhalations and let out two full exhalations. Let these breaths clear space that allows for no other thoughts. Just emptiness—completely empty and free of all thoughts, feelings, perceptions… embracing the vastness—the void—the nothingness!
If there were not an utter and absolute dark
Of silence and sheer oblivion
At the core of everything,
How terrible the sun would be,
How ghastly it would be to strike a match,
And make a light.
But the very sun himself is pivoted
Upon the core of pure oblivion.
D.H. Lawrence
Stand up…
You can do this… feet on the floor. Just be still in the light of the day.
When each day is sacred,
when each hour is sacred,
when each instant is sacred,
earth and you, space and you
bearing the sacred through time
you’ll reach the fields of light.

Start walking…move forward… one step at a time…
So now what… walk, run, dance if you like. When you’re finally moving about, begin to notice anything around you that feels heavy. Metaphorically speaking, the physical ‘stuff’ that surrounds us weighs us down unnecessarily and depletes our energy. So take a good look and be ruthless. Get out the trash bags and recycle bin to begin unloading and create space that will allow you to feel energetically lighter.
How long has it been since you tackled your office? Remove work, projects, files and anything else that isn’t your primary focus or needs your attention anymore.
Approach it and there is no beginning;
follow it and there is no end.
You can’t know it, but you can be it,
at ease in your own life.
Lao Tzu
Shed the weight… not as difficult as you may think…
Pitch what you don’t love or want anymore that is still taking up space—physical space and mental space. Be free! And those annoying piles of papers, little collectibles all over your office or house and decorative items, filling your head with frustration every time you look or think about them. Create open space to think and feel clearly. Remove the distractions.
What about all of those magazines you’ve been hanging onto because surely you just know there’s going to be an article you’ll want to go back to—and you know you’ll never get back to them anyway. It’s probably time to weed out the books and CDs that are piled on the floor, because there’s no more room on the shelves to hold them.
How about your refrigerator and pantry—anything in there that’s feeling heavy, old, or unhealthy may be making you feel and look that way.
Every real object must cease to be what it seemed,
and none could ever be what the whole soul desired.
George Santayana
Coming and going…
Have you noticed lately that you’ve got more in your arms as you walk through the door of your office or home than when you walked out of that door? Experiment…
Come home with only you… it’s liberating!
When you bring home something new, choose something to remove
Before you walk through your door… imagine all negative energy is falling away
Lets be practical and lighten the load… get a rolling cart for goodness sakes!
What about people? Oh no—what are your commitments with friends, family or colleagues this month, this week, today? Really—is there anyone that is on your list to see who may be weighing you down? If the people in your life aren’t helping you to feel light, supporting you fully, loving you unconditionally, give you joy, then what?
Big Heart
wide as a watermelon,
but wise as birth,
there is so much abundance
in the people I have…
and they know me,
they help me unravel,
they listen with ears made of conch shells
they speak back with the wine of the best region.
They are my staff.
They comfort me.

Be home… be light… be understood…
Is your home or work environment supporting your inner emotional space? That place inside of you where your soul lives! Did you know that your inner landscape is directly connected to your physical living space to create the balance and harmony essential to your emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing? Create your home within and around you—connect with its energy, its grace, its healing spirit, its light, the objects that give you joy, the clean lines and open areas that free you, the lovely, the beautiful, the comfort—the weightlessness you receive back from it.
Home is not where you live but where they understand you.
